F.A.Q.

Designs

  • Each piece is thoughtfully handmade by Saxon Stone, and each product is one of one.

With few exceptions, we design and produce reusable molds in house, eliminating reliance on single-use materials or outsourcing. A few resources that we outsource include the metal for our nickel and brass parts, as well as our food-safe sealant wax, which are sourced from professional suppliers that support ethical and independent design.

Once each piece is poured with concrete into its mold, it is meticulously hand sanded and shaped to be smooth and refined. Then it is hand-waxed with a food-safe beeswax for a protective layer and shine.

Because of our hands-on approach, slight variations in texture, shape, or surface detail may occur. These characteristics do not affect the function or integrity of each piece. These natural differences are a reflection of how no two are exactly alike - part of what makes every Saxon Stone design one of a kind. This process ensures every creation carries a human touch, while merging art and sustainability to craft enduring products that honor the natural world.

  • Yes! Many products can be custom made. Multiple products can be poured in the same concrete batch to ensure color and texture consistency.

If you'd like a custom product or set of products, we’d be happy to discuss options with you. Please send a message through our Custom Orders page to get in touch, and share with us your idea for a custom order.

Not all requests are guaranteed, but we will do our best to accommodate any custom orders.

  • Sustainability is at the core of what we do.

Our mission is to create impactful, elevated concrete art while staying deeply committed to sustainability. Though some of our molds have been previously outsourced, we now 3D model and 3D print our own designs and molds. We also use long-lasting materials like concrete and seal our pieces with a food-safe beeswax, which are durable choices that support both functionality and eco-conscious living.

These practices allow us to reduce waste by eliminating the need for disposable materials, minimize our footprint, and keep every step of the process in-house to fully align with our creative values.

  • Each piece is created in our studio in Chicago, IL.

Each product is poured, sanded, and finished by hand. The entire production process takes place in the U.S.A., with one exception: our metal components are currently sourced internationally through a small-scale, trusted supplier.

We're actively exploring options to bring even these metal parts closer to home as we grow. We aim to create every Saxon Stone piece with care, intention, and transparency.

Safety & Product Maintenance

  • Yes, as long as they are sealed with a durable, food-safe barrier.

Concrete is porous and contains lime, which can leach if unsealed. Concrete itself isn’t considered food or smoke-safe in its raw form. But if sealed fully with a non-toxic, food-safe sealant, you create a barrier that makes it safe to use for eating, drinking, or smoking. That’s why each of our concrete products are carefully waxed with our food-safe beeswax to create a fully sealed barrier. We ensure that when you receive your concrete product(s) at the time of delivery, they are safe to use right away.

The seal must remain intact for it to be considered safe for use. It is NOT advisable long term to use any concrete product if the wax sealant wears off.

For longevity and safety, reseal with wax regularly.

Our products are safe for intended use when maintained properly. If a customer doesn’t rewax their concrete product(s), the protective barrier can be compromised. Resealing with wax is required for continued safe use. Do not use any product if the surface shows exposed, raw concrete, or if the sealant is visibly worn.

The best way to tell if it's time to rewax your product is if the shine has grown dull. We recommend adding a new layer of wax once the shine is no longer obvious, or about every 2 months if it seems the shine has faded.

It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure the maintenance of each of their concrete product(s) over time. Saxon Stone is not liable for any damages, health issues, or misuse that results from a lack of maintenance or failure to rewax your concrete product(s).

  • A proper wax sealant, paired with a clean metal airway, are both key for the safe use of The Smokable Sculptures.

It is also important that our Smokable Sculptures include metal heating elements that are made with certified metal parts.

It is NOT advisable long term to use any concrete product, particularly The Smokable Sculptures, if the wax sealant wears off, since it means someone could be pulling smoke across raw concrete.

We recommend cleaning and re-waxing your Smokable Sculpture every 1-2 months for safest results. With more frequent use, we suggest once a month, or once the shine has faded.

Smokable Sculptures

  • Correct - and that’s by design.

Our Smokable Sculptures are fully functional waterless pipes. The visual aesthetic might suggest water is involved, but these pieces are ready to use as is. Each one is sculpted with a long internal air path that allows for a smooth pull, no water needed. We intentionally embraced a waterless design for simplicity, ease of use, and to highlight the sculpture itself as a centerpiece, not just a tool.

That said, we’re currently working on a 2.0 versionthat will include a water chamber for those who prefer that experience. Stay tuned! More coming soon.

  • Use a bristled bottle brush inside the Smokable Sculpture with soap and water to clear any residue.

For your metal heating element, we suggest cleaning it by soaking it in Isopropyl alcohol and salt for about an hour, and it will come out clean and shiny afterward.

The frequency in which you clean these pieces will depend on how frequently you use your Smokable Sculpture, but we recommend cleaning them every month for general maintenance.

We are working on supplying our own custom cleaning brushes and waxes for the maintenance of your pieces, which will be available on our shop soon!
